The country as a whole benefits from a warm tropical climate, with an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius almost all year around.
Although 2006 saw a military coup this was a typical “Thai Style” affair with power rapidly returned to a civilian government. Many believe that by acting as they did, the military prevented a continuing abuse of power by the then prime minister Thaksin. With new elections set to take place at the end of 2007 Thailand is set to return to a stable and well run constitutional monarchy, with a sound legal system (based on the British law structure). It enjoys a strong economy and has a competently, well-developed infrastructure system. In addition it enjoys a very low incidence of crime against property and people, particularly within the tourist sectors, in fact Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is rated as one of the Worlds safest large cities.
The dominant religion is Buddhism, which helps to create an exceptionally comfortable atmosphere. Visitors to Thailand's many resorts and hotels will find the Thai people friendly and welcoming. In addition to this, the Thai people love to party and interact with foreigners (Farangs), taking every opportunity to practice their English language skills. In actual fact, in the tourist sectors of Thailand, almost all local people speak a little English, with many more than capable of holding a meaningful conversation, and enjoy socialising with tourists, helping to generate a considerable cross cultural mixture of music, food and styles.
